About the Lessons

What ages and skill levels do you teach?

I primarily offer lessons for children age four and older. My lessons are designed for beginners and developing swimmers.

Beginners may work on water comfort, putting their face underwater, blowing bubbles, floating, kicking, returning to the wall, and basic arm movements.

Developing swimmers may work on freestyle, side breathing, backstroke, body position, stroke coordination, endurance, and stronger overall technique.

A swimmer's readiness depends on more than age. Comfort in the water, ability to follow basic safety directions, attention span, and previous swimming experience may also be considered.

Are the lessons private?

Yes. Every swimmer receives one-on-one instruction from their assigned instructor.

When an additional instructor is available, two private lessons may sometimes take place at the same time in different areas of the pool.

These are not group or semi-private lessons. Each swimmer still has their own instructor, individual lesson plan, and direct supervision throughout the lesson.

Families will be told who their assigned instructor is when the schedule is confirmed.

Will my child be the only swimmer in the pool?

Not always. When an additional instructor is available, two private lessons may sometimes take place at the same time in different areas of the pool.

Each swimmer will still have their own instructor and receive one-on-one instruction throughout the lesson. These are not group or semi-private lessons, and swimmers will not be expected to share an instructor or follow the same lesson plan.

The instructors will coordinate activities and use appropriate areas of the pool to help maintain space, organization, and safety. Families will be told who their assigned instructor is when the lesson schedule is confirmed.

Pricing & Scheduling

How long are lessons and how much do they cost?

A 30-minute private lesson is $65.

A 60-minute private lesson is $130.

Most younger swimmers and beginners begin with a 30-minute lesson. This is usually enough time to practice important skills while keeping the swimmer focused and comfortable.

A 60-minute lesson may be better for older swimmers, swimmers with greater endurance, students working on several skills, or swimmers who want additional practice time.

I can recommend a lesson length after learning more about the swimmer's age, experience, comfort level, and goals.

How do scheduling and monthly payments work?

Saturday classes are currently full while I wait for a parent to confirm a lesson spot. Families can email me or submit the lesson inquiry form to ask about future openings.

Availability changes month to month. A lesson time is not reserved until Ezra approves the schedule, the required paperwork is completed, and payment for the confirmed month has been received.

Payment for all confirmed lessons in the upcoming month is due in full before the swimmer's first scheduled lesson of that month.

Lesson totals may vary from month to month depending on the number of confirmed lesson dates. Families are charged based on the lessons scheduled for that month.

If a swimmer begins after the month has already started, payment is due for all remaining confirmed lessons before the first lesson.

Cash is preferred. Zelle or Venmo may also be accepted when arranged in advance.

Preparing for Lessons

Where are lessons held?

Lessons are held at a private pool in San Leandro, California.

For privacy and safety, the full street address is not posted publicly on the website. The address and arrival instructions are provided after the schedule, required paperwork, and payment have been completed.

Families must use street parking and may not block or park in the driveway.

Bathroom access may be limited on certain lesson dates. Families will be informed before their scheduled lesson.

What happens during the first lesson?

The first lesson helps the instructor understand the swimmer's current abilities, comfort level, confidence, listening skills, and goals.

The lesson may include water entry, floating, kicking, breath control, short swimming attempts, basic safety skills, and observation of any strokes the swimmer already knows.

The first lesson is also a chance for the swimmer to become comfortable with the instructor and lesson environment.

After the lesson, the instructor may explain what the swimmer did well, which skills need more practice, and what future lessons may focus on.

What should my child bring?

Swimmers should bring:

  • A properly fitting swimsuit
  • A towel
  • A water bottle
  • Goggles, if normally used
  • Sunscreen applied before arrival when appropriate
  • A warm layer or change of clothes for after the lesson

Swimmers who are not fully toilet-trained must wear an appropriate swim diaper.

Parents should also make sure the swimmer uses the restroom before arriving, especially on dates when bathroom access may be limited.

Policies & Getting Started

What is the cancellation and make-up policy?

Parent-cancelled or missed lessons are non-refundable and make-up lessons are not guaranteed.

If Swim With Ezra cancels a lesson because of instructor availability, pool conditions, weather, or facility issues, the family will receive an appropriate credit, reschedule, or refund.

Courtesy exceptions may occasionally be offered at Swim With Ezra’s discretion but are not guaranteed.

Do parents need to remain during the lesson?

Yes. A parent or legal guardian must remain on-site and immediately available during the lesson unless another arrangement has been approved in advance.

Parents are welcome to observe the lesson. To help the swimmer focus, the instructor may ask parents to avoid repeated coaching, calling out directions, or interrupting while instruction is taking place.

Parents may ask questions before or after the lesson when time allows.

How do I get started?

Families can begin by completing the website inquiry form or emailing me directly.

Please include the swimmer's name, age, current swimming experience, main goals, preferred lesson length, and general availability.

Submitting an inquiry does not reserve a lesson time.

After reviewing the request, I will follow up to discuss availability. Once a suitable time is selected, the required waiver and registration information will be sent privately.

The lesson is officially confirmed after the paperwork has been completed and payment for the month has been received.
